Portraits are an absolute passion of mine, so get ready to dive deep into studying the human figure through sheet metal sculpture. I’ll be showing how to plot out faces with raising so the metal doesn’t rip in those difficult deep spots such as the nose. We’ll be going through some basic complementary drawing skills (of which is a must to take the class) to help transfer your design from 2d to 3d. When to work hot versus working cold in pitch. And covering how to gather the metal in layers so as to capture and relay the information from skeletal, muscular, soft tissues, and hair.
This lesson plan unpacks itself with a bottom up approach. We’ll be practicing our faces on paper, with clay, and then on metal (this time in silver). Compartmentalizing the different lessons allows us to go through design and material science as they become important giving us plenty of time to share and think. Portrait work is not a singular skill set, it's multiple skill sets come together to make something really special. So pregame for this one with drawing and sculpting. If you want a head start download my Portrait Study Worksheet PDF :https://www.patreon.com/posts/face-portrait-30449911 Or reach out to me and I will send you a copy if you’re serious about the class.
On Patreon I also offer all kinds of lesson plans and insights to my work. It’s worth your time.
I do recommend some time behind the hammer and chisel before taking this course, it is the more advanced program I offer. Drawing as a prerequisite skill set is the minimum needed to take this course. If you are concerned about this then please reach out to me at PryorcreationLLC@gmail.com
I will be supplying the tool sets for class so you don’t have to buy them.
They are however available for per-purchase at Hesseniron.com/jewelry-tools.html or after the class in person.
