Learning Textures.
When you're drowning in shapes and everything is metal colored something you should think about is texture. Different textures will catch light differently providing depth and layering vital for creating clean/clear sculptures.
Here I used sharp round punch to help the wing stand out. It turned out ok, without the deep planishing chisel marks it'd look pretty plain.
With the dragon body I did a better job using a few different textures, but as you can see I've got a long way to go. The important thing is your eye can clearly judge this beasts body parts and the shapes don't get lost in a sea of funny steel shaped clouds.
So when doing your own chasing experiment like crazy, make new chisels as you need shapes. It'll also pay off to make a few different sizes of the same chisel.
